"From energy efficiency to urban mobility" project has been finished in Polotsk. It has become the first project in Belarus in the sphere of transport that was implemented with local people engagement. The firts bicycle trail has appeared in the city, and 12 bicycle parkings were installed. The mobility plan, developed by local authorities, experts, public organizations, journalists ans entrepreneurs, will become a strategy to improve transport system of Polotsk.
While it is comfortable to drive a car on the street, a bicycle will not be chosen. How to unload the city without negative feedback from motorists and prove that public transport is not a loser’s choice? What wise city decisions will materialize in future? Conference on sustainable urban mobility was held in Minsk with the financial support of European Union. More than 20 speakers from 5 countries discussed the topics of sustainable city development, public transport development, wise city decisions.
What changes in transport and urban planning are needed to make balarusian cities comfortable for all road users? Analys of the situation in the country and recommendations to improve legislation will be introduced at the conference on sustainable urban mobility that will be held on March, 24 in Minsk. Conference dedicated to urban mobility will be held in Minsk on March, 24, 2017. More than 20 speakers from Belarus, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine and Sweden will gather to share experiences and discuss plans and the best opportunities for sustainable development of the regions in Belarus.
In June 2016 Polotsk joined the international CIVITAS network, which spreads best practices in eco-friendly and sustainable transport among cities. Already in September 2016 members of the Working and Public groups involved in mobility development in Polotsk took part in CIVITAS Forum in Gdynia, in order to see transport solutions with their own eyes and take over the valuable experience from foreign colleagues.
Polotsk welcomed the European Mobility Week for the second time. Like in the previous year, it took place on September 16-22. This year’s novelty was the opening of the first bicycle lane in the city, as well as the bike ride which connected Polotsk and Novopolotsk.
In the time of European Mobility Week in Belarus there was given a start to ZOOM. Kids on the Move campaign. In Polotsk and Novopolotsk it was being held for the second time, and Minsk has seen it for the first time, with students of Gymnasium No19 and the Belarusian Music Academy College.
